Liver disease is generally classified as something that disturbs the normal functionality of a liver. The problem can be caused by injury, toxin, virus, bacteria, hormones, allergy or even foods and drinks. The liver is one of the most important parts of the body and we can’t live long without it. It is a multitask organ and having one of its function disturbed can cause us a lot of trouble. As much as 75% of your liver tissue needs to be in perfect health to avoid any complications. Another name for liver disease is hepatic disease.
There is a few ways liver disease can happen and here are a few examples of them – Inflammations on the cells, too much cholesterol inside the liver, the flow of the bile is block or restricted, the tissue is damaged because of chemicals or viruses and there is not enough blood flowing into the liver. Each of these will give you different liver complications.
Most of the time the lifestyle is to be blamed when one contracted liver disease. Other causes include the spread of viruses and bacteria, a situation where you are exposed to non-sterile needles when doing tattoo or you had unprotected sex with multiple partners. Excessive amount of alcohol consumptions can also be blame for having liver problems.
Sometimes liver problems are caused by hereditary. If one of your family members has a liver disease then there is a chance that you might inherit the genes from him or her.
Another cause of liver damage is due to the exposure of toxins or chemicals, especially if you are working in a factory. Taking the wrong dosage of medications can lead to liver problems as well.
You can first see signs of liver problem when you are feeling nausea all the time, constant vomiting, feeling pain around the right side of your lower rib cage or your skin and eyes starts to have yellow patches. However some liver problem like Gilbert’s disease shows no symptoms at all.
If you think that you are facing one of these problems then you better seek help from a doctor immediately. He can perform some test on you to narrow down what kind of liver disease are you having. It can vary from asking question regarding your lifestyle or family backgrounds to performing blood test. Depending on the liver problem you have, he will prescribe the medicine or treatment accordingly.
Again, it is always better to do prevention than going through the cure. Most of the time you just need to make some adjustments to your current lifestyle. Avoid consuming too much alcohol, eat plenty of healthy food like vegetables, exercise regularly and get vaccination for hepatitis B and C.
