When you have a baby, you will want to do everything in the world to protect him; child proof the house, get baby seats for the car and constantly making sure no one accidentally bumps into him on the streets.
These may seem a lot but they are actually just one kind of protection. You try your best to minimize physical harms but what bout child immunization from diseases?
Child immunization should always be on top of your list when you have a newborn baby. In the first few weeks, your baby is in a dangerous state. He could contract a simple flu and that could be fatal for him.
His first form of protection is actually breast milk where he receives some of the mother’s antibodies. This helps to fight off any germs or diseases that might come after your child. But unfortunately this protection doesn’t last forever. After a year or so, the antibodies will no longer be effective and you will need to do child immunization for him.
There are some parents who think that child immunization is just a waste of time and money. With polio or measles cases being so rare, they assume that the chances of them infecting their child are very low. They also assume that he or she will receive all the vaccination required from the mother’s milk.
That is the wrong assumption on this issue. The only reason the cases are so rare is because we have been administered the vaccine already. Vaccines are actually weakened viruses that our body can fight. When the body is exposed to these viruses, the body will adapt and produce the antibodies needed to fight the same viruses.
Without child immunization, your child might not be able to survive the diseases. It is because the real viruses are much stronger and the antibodies cannot react in time to prevent any harm.
Some viruses might be not truly “dead” as well. There are some infected individual who carries the viruses but have the antibodies to fight them. You can actually come in contact with them from a carrier.
Not all diseases have instant effects on a person. Just because you look healthy doesn’t mean you truly are. The viruses may lie dormant for years or the adult body has formed enough resistance to fight off the viruses. For pregnant women, a virus attack could be very severe. The fetus may die prematurely or the viruses disturbing the growth of the fetus, causing the baby to be born with disabilities.
You should just avoid all these complication and start the child immunization as early as possible. There are only a few vaccinations that he needs to go through and after that he will be vaccinated for life. The small sum you pay for vaccination is nothing compared to the medical bills you might face when your child is in critical condition with a serious disease. Early child vaccination is not just an investment on your child’s future, but also on your wallet.
