Acupuncture for PCOS

While there is much research into acupuncture and fertility, recent studies have shown that acupuncture and electro acupuncture can help to reduce the symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Other benefits of acupuncture for PCOS are that it has been shown to reduce testosterone levels, regulate the female hormones which leads to a more regular menstrual cycle, and it can aid weight loss and waist measurement – all of which can help to increase fertility in women with PCOS.

PCOS is one of the most common problems affecting female fertility and pharmaceutical treatment can cause numerous side effects. Acupuncture may be a way of maintaining health and helping to keep symptoms under control. Studies have shown that acupuncture and medications are perfectly safe in combination and that this can also be a good long term solution to the problem. Acupuncture can help to reduce side effects from medications used and promote fertility.
Electro acupuncture involves attaching a tens type machine to inserted acupuncture needles and passing a very mild electrical impulse from one to another. The practice is perfectly safe and does not cause any pain or side effects.
